ARLENE BOGNA
DIRECTOR
ARTWORK : photography + painting
Arlene Bogna is a native Californian who seems to have had insight into her true calling early on in life. As a small child she would hike in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where she staged and photographed scenes with her casts of dolls and stuffed animals. As a teen she was awarded various art scholarships and trained in figure drawing at Art Center and Otis Parsons. She earned a degree in film and literature at UCLA and spent a year studying cinema and mass media at the Universita di Bologna, Italy. Arlene went on to become an award-winning writer/director with over 25 commercials under her belt. Bogna’s film The Ballad of Snake Oil Sam debuted at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival.
Arlene explores emotion and cultural identity in her photography and paintings with a formal interest in color and composition. Bogna’s artwork has been featured in ArtScene, SCWCA, and Los Angeles Times. Arlene has exhibited at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park, Gallery 825 (Jurors include Jay Belloli of the Armory Center for the Arts, Sugar Brown of George Billis Gallery with Artist Kent Twitchell), UCLA-Santa Monica Medical Center (Art & Wine Auction), Project 210, the AIA award-winning home/gallery of Michael Collins & Daniel Banchik, and Bonhams & Butterfields (for Project Angel Food).
Bogna’s paintings also appeared in an award-winning PSA TV commercial in national rotation for the charity A Window Between Worlds.
